City Council Agenda Item #3
Staff Report
Date: May 4, 2026
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Elisa Arteaga, City Administrator
Subject: Planning Commission Vacancy – Term Expiration: December 31, 2029 Recommendation
City staff recommends that the City Council:

1. Receive and file the letter of interest submitted for the one (1) Planning Commission vacancy.

2. Consider and make appointment to fill the vacant Planning Commission seat.

Background
The City of Gridley currently has one vacancy on the Planning Commission. The position carries a four-year term, expiring December 31, 2029. The City received one (1) expression of interest from an individual seeking to serve on the Planning Commission after the deadline for the April 6 City Council appointments. At that meeting, one vacancy remained unfilled; making an additional appointment would bring the Commission to its full complement of five members.

The Planning Commission is a citizen advisory body of five members that plays a central role in guiding the City’s growth, development, and preservation of community character. The Commission operates under the authority granted by State law and the Gridley Municipal Code and serves as an important quasi-judicial body in local government decision-making.

Financial Impact
There is no additional financial impact associated with appointing three Planning Commissioners, as compensation for meeting attendance is already included in the approved budget.
