PROCLAMATION OF THE GROVER BEACH CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF GROVER BEACH DECLARING
THE WEEK OF May 15 – 21, 2022
“NATIONAL POLICE WEEK
IN HONOR OF SAN LUIS OBISPO POLICE DEPARTMENT
DETECTIVE LUCA PIETRO BENEDETTI”
WHEREAS, the Congress and President of the United States have designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which it falls as Police Week; and WHEREAS, San Luis Obispo Police Department Detective Luca Pietro Benedetti was born in San Francisco to Italian immigrant parents and was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area; he attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he studied computer engineering and later met his future wife, Grace in 2006; and
WHEREAS, in 2008, Detective Benedetti attended the Allan Hancock Police Academy and upon graduation began his law enforcement career with the Atascadero Police Department; and WHEREAS, in 2012, Detective Benedetti joined the San Luis Obispo Police Department where he led a distinguished career as a Traffic Accident Reconstructionist, Range Master, Field Training Officer, Detective and his proudest accomplishment of being a member of the San Luis Obispo County Regional SWAT Team; and
WHEREAS, in 2013, Detective Benedetti and his wife Grace proudly welcomed their first daughter, Elisabetta and in 2018, their second daughter, Giovanna; and WHEREAS, Detective Benedetti loved the tasks of cooking, gardening and home improvements all while enjoying family gatherings, bar-b-ques, and his Italian heritage; and WHEREAS, On May 10, 2021, Detective Benedetti was on-duty and protecting his community when he was tragically shot and killed while serving a search warrant in the City of San Luis Obispo; and
WHEREAS, Detective Benedetti’s sacrifice to ensure the safety of the community of San Luis Obispo and the larger community of San Luis Obispo County shall not be forgotten.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Grover Beach City Council of Grover Beah does herby officially proclaim the week of May 15-21, 2022 as “National Police Week in Honor of San Luis Obispo Police Department Detective Luca Pietro Benedetti” in honor of his many courageous actions during his law enforcement career to safeguard the citizens of San Luis Obispo County.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Grover Beach to be affixed this 9th day of May, 2022.
