PROCLAMATION OF THE GROVER BEACH CITY COUNCIL
DECLARING MAY 7-13, 2023 as
“NATIONAL TRAVEL AND TOURISM WEEK”
WHEREAS, travel has a positive effect on California and the nation’s economic prosperity and image abroad; it also impacts business productivity and individual travelers’ well-being; and
WHEREAS, travel has one been of the hardest hit industries during the COVID pandemic, yet still provides significant economic benefits for the nation by generating more than $2 billion in economic output and nearly $910 billion spent directly by travelers; and WHEREAS, travel is among the largest private-sector employers in the United States, supporting 12 million jobs or 1 in every 10 in 2021; and WHEREAS, travel is a significant economic driver in every region of the country with the largest sources being food services ($238 billion) and lodging ($206 billion) in 2021; and WHEREAS, meetings, events and incentive travel are core business functions that help companies strengthen their business and employee performance and reward business accomplishments, which in turn boosts the U.S. economy; and WHEREAS, travel continues to be a pillar of economic growth in San Luis Obispo County, adding $1.78 billion to our local economy in 2021 and contributing $104 million in local tax receipts for the betterment of our community; and WHEREAS, travel has been the foundation of a healthy workforce as one of the largest private-sector employers in California, putting almost 20,000 people to work each day in our county; and
WHEREAS, welcoming visitors from near and far has always been, and will always be, the enduring ethos of the travel industry in the U.S., California and Grover Beach, California.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Grover Beach City Council does herby officially proclaim May 7 – 13, 2023 as “National Travel and Tourism Week”.
