PROCLAMATION OF THE GROVER BEACH CITY COUNCIL
RECOGNIZING THE GROVER BEACH COMMUNITY LIBRARY
UPON THEIR 20TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, in January 2002, members of the south county community met and formed a board, with the start-up gift of $5,000 from a local supporter. The library was named and the mission statement, “To serve the Grover Beach community as a family friendly library” was chosen; and
WHEREAS, in September 2003, a non-profit corporation was formed, and a location was rented in the Exploration Station. Many volunteers helped by building shelves, covering books, cleaning and painting. Donations were received from The Rotary Club of Grover Beach, Mid-State Bank, and Computers for Kids. Opening day was May 1, 2004, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m; and
WHEREAS, in January 2007 the library moved to its existing location at 240 N. 9th Street allowing for extended hours, Storytime in both English and Spanish, Summer Reading Program, a Senior Book Club and Reading to Rover a program for challenged readers; and WHEREAS, the future of the Library looks bright thanks to a dedicated investment program that the Library has secured that will give them the ability to extend both their space and services. These services include services for the senior community, successful summer reading programs for local children and the continue outreach through very well attended book sales.
WHEREAS, the City of Grover Beach thanks your board for supporting and sponsoring the community events that reflect your mission to have a friendly public library for the south county community. Their dedication and frugality in performance and expenditure, is making it possible to make these dreams come true.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Grover Beach City Council expresses its gratitude and recognition to the Grover Beach Community Library on its 20th Anniversary.
