Dear Mayor Bright and City Council Members,
I am writing to express the strong support of the South County Chambers of Commerce (SCCC) for Agenda Item 10, the Prohousing Designation Program Application. On behalf of the businesses and community members we represent, I commend the City Council for pursuing this important designation from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).
The Prohousing designation will provide Grover Beach with a competitive edge in securing critical state grant funding for housing and infrastructure projects, which will not only address our city’s growing housing needs but also support sustainable economic development. This is aligned with the City’s Major Goal of addressing Housing and Homelessness and reinforces the proactive approach the city is taking to enhance housing affordability.
By pursuing this designation, Grover Beach will gain access to programs such as the Affordable Housing & Sustainable Communities Program and the Infill Infrastructure Grant, which are essential for advancing local development. The City’s commitment to reducing development constraints, streamlining housing production, and offering financial incentives directly benefits both residents and businesses by fostering a healthy, balanced community where housing is accessible to all.
We urge you to adopt the resolution authorizing participation in the Prohousing Designation Program and believe this step will create meaningful, long-term benefits for Grover Beach. The South County Chambers of Commerce fully supports this effort and looks forward to collaborating with the City as these initiatives move forward.
