ITEM NO. 1

COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM
JUNE 4, 2024
PREPARED BY: Jenny Morrison, Finance Director
SUBJECT: FY 2024-2025 Budget Workshop

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Each year, the City adopts a new operating budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The budget is generally adopted by June 30 to have legal spending authority for the new fiscal year, which begins July 1. As part of the budget presentation and adoption process, a budget workshop is held to communicate the proposed budget to the City Council, the community and all stakeholders.

An annual operating budget serves two primary purposes; a spending plan and a communication tool of resources to be spent for the fiscal year. Through a collaborative process, the City Management team has identified priorities and a spending plan for the proposed Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget that will require the use of the City's fiscal resources to operate all municipal departments. This budget workshop allows the opportunity to discuss the upcoming priorities and operations of FY 2024-2025, and to garner any feedback or changes that may need to be incorporated before the budget is adopted later in June.

The budget will be presented to Council at the workshop. Copies will be available for interested attendees.

FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to the City, as this is a discussion item only.

RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends Council review and provide directions on the proposed Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget.
