RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation to receive and file the Beautification Program, updated report for the month of August 2024.
SUMMARY
The City of Hawaiian Gardens created a City Beautification Program for exterior improvements for single-family, duplex, and mobile homes, and interior improvements for condominiums. The Program is currently funded through the Hawaiian Gardens General Fund. This report is an update on General Fund expenditures.
The intent of the Program is to improve the overall appearance of the City of Hawaiian Gardens’ neighborhoods, increase property values, and increase community pride. The improvements on the homes must be deemed beneficial to the overall exterior appearance of the property and address deteriorated and unsightly conditions visible from the street. Financial assistance up to a maximum of $10,000 is provided to property owners and up to $25,000 for substandard cases through a grant. There is also a $2,500 grant available for emergency cases.

CLOSURE
SUMMARY
Due to upcoming HVAC construction at the C. Robert Lee Activity, the facility will be temporarily closed on October 14-16, 2024. Programs such as the Senior Center lunch and other programs will be impacted for a short period of time. Staff are recommending that it is necessary to relocate senior activities temporarily. The Teen Center has been identified as a suitable alternative venue during this period.
The Teen Center has been identified as a temporary location due to its access and availability. The goal is to continue to have modified programs for seniors between the hours of 9:00am-2:30pm so that our senior residents have access to lunch, a computer lab, and activities such as Loteria and Bingo. As a contingency plan, the Senior Center Lunch program will be relocated to the Teen Center for the entire week of October 14th, in case of any setbacks with construction.
By providing modified programs the city can continue to offer a safe place for seniors to socialize and participate in the daily activities they have been accustomed to.
Transportation to and from the Teen Center will be available for seniors who are residents due to the limited parking at the Teen Center.
Staff is collaborating to ensure the readiness of the Teen Center for senior activities. A communication plan and expectations will be in place for Senior Center participants Agenda Item #B8

during the week of October 14th.
Key staff will also be relocated to the teen center to assist with any logistical needs during this timeframe. Other programs held at the C. Robert Lee Activity Center such as youth volleyball, and youth specialty classes will be rescheduled to make up for any loss practice time.
