AGENDA ITEM NO. 9

CITY OF HAWTHORNE
City Council

AGENDA BILL
For the meeting of April 9, 2024
Originating Department: City Clerk
City Manager: __________
Vontray Norris
City Clerk: ___________
Dayna WilliamsHunter
SUBJECT:

Resolution No. 8456, A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Hawthorne, California, Calling and Giving Notice of a General Municipal Election to be held in the City of Hawthorne for the Election of Certain Officers Consolidated with the Statewide General Election Scheduled for Tuesday November 5, 2024 and Requesting that the Board of Supervisors Issue Instructions to the Registrar-Recorder to take any and all Steps Necessary for the Holding of the Consolidated Election.

RECOMMENDED MOTION:

Staff recommends that the City Council approve Resolution No. 8456.

DISCUSSION:

The City is required to give notice of the general municipal election to select two council members and a mayor, all for a term of four years each. The measure for the charter city will be done as a separate resolution. Although the City traditionally consolidated the municipal election with the Governing School Board election, both the school district and the county registrar have informed the City that the School Board has been calling for their elections separately. The county registrar has also informed us that there is no need for the City to request a consolidated election with the Statewide General Election because the county has the City of Hawthorne on a list cities continuing such requests so that the County Supervisors do not need to call for a vote for each election.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN:

FISCAL IMPACT:

The estimates as provided by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder are $162,000 without a ballot measure and $186,000 with a ballot measure.
