RECOMMENDED MOTION:
Staff recommends that the City Council open and close public hearing and approve Resolution 8469.
DISCUSSION:
This is the second step in the annual Weed Abatement Assessment process. In this program, the City hires a contractor to do weed and rubbish abatement work on private property. The work is performed following a five (5) day notification period during which the property owner has the option to clean the property. Following the end of the five-day period, a work order is issued and the property is cleaned. Charges for the cleaning are then placed on the County Assessment Rolls.
Notice of Public Hearing was posted around City Hall and at the Hawthorne Library. Following the public hearing, it is recommended that the City Council authorize the collection of the assessment.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None. The Weed Abatement Assessment is estimated to generate $56,734.75 for the General Fund necessary to offset weed abatement costs.
NOTICING PROCEDURES:
Notice of Public hearing and Resolution 8469 were mailed to affected property owners and posted in three locations.
