Dir. of Public Works: ___________

SUBJECT:
Purchase Order between the City of Hawthorne and Montroy Sign & Graphic Products for a Truevis VG3 64” Printer/Cutter and all necessary equipment for installation/use.
RECOMMENDED MOTION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the Purchase Order and authorize the Director of Public Works to proceed with the purchase of the Truevis VG3 64” Printer/Cutter.
DISCUSSION:
On May 14th, 2024, City Council approved Resolution 8461, adopting a new City seal/logo. To implement this update, the City plans to update all marked city vehicle stickers, airport and city hall signage, bus stops, City Council chambers signage, internally illuminated street name signs (IISNS), and regular street name signs. To achieve this, the City has determined that it would be more cost-effective to purchase its own printer/cutter, specifically the Truevis VG3 64” Printer/Cutter, rather than relying on multiple third-party printing companies.
The City proposes making Montroy Sign & Graphic Products the sole source provider for the purchase of the Truevis VG3 64” Printer Cutter and all necessary equipment. This machine is crucial for the new logo upgrade, allowing us to update marked vehicle stickers, airport and city hall signage, bus stops, City Council chambers signage, and all traffic name signs throughout the city. By avoiding the high costs of external vendors, we are taking steps to manage city revenue more effectively.
We have received valuable feedback and recommendations from the City of Redondo, which has offered to share their MUTCD logo files with us. This collaboration will save us considerable time since we won't need to create these files from scratch. Additionally, many South Bay cities use the same machine and frequently share information on its usage and maintenance. This collaborative approach saves time and resources compared to relying on the company for service
and resets. By choosing this vendor, we are making a cost-effective decision that will save both time and money.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN:
1.5 Develop a branding program for the City. This will create a recognizable and relevant brand to the City to be used on media, wayfinding signs, and business cards, etc. Implementation to commence upon completion of program.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None. Funds for this payment in the amount of $54,695.39 are available in the adopted Fiscal Year 2023-24 budget and will be paid for with approved and allocated funds.
