INTERVIEW PROCESS
5 INTERVIEW TIME
• Thirty (30) minutes for each applicant
• Three (3) minutes to present their qualifications and discuss their candidacy.
• Two (25) minutes for Council to ask questions and for candidates to respond.
• Two (2) minutes to make closing remarks.
INTERVIEW PROCESS
6 INTERVIEWS
• There are no pre-established questions.
• Mayor allows each member of the City Council to ask one question of each applicant.
• Mayor will manage the starting order of questions with each candidate, rotating among members and ensuring the same questions are asked of each applicant.

7 NOMINATIONS
• Mayor calls for nominations.
• Nominations do not require a second. A motion
and a second are required to close nominations.
INTERVIEW PROCESS
8 VOTE
• Mayor calls for a vote on each nominee.
• The first nominee to receive four or more votes will be the new member. Members do not have to vote and can
abstain from voting if they wish.
• Voting will continue until one nominee receives four votes.

• Mayor calls for a motion to approve a resolution
appointing a Council Member for the City of
Hayward.

10 OATH OF AFFIRMATION
• Mayor directs City Clerk to administer the oath of
affirmation to new member of the City Council.
