RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF THE SIDE LETTER AMENDING THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE CITY OF HAYWARD AND THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIREFIGHTERS, AFL-CIO, LOCAL 1909 TO CHANGE THE COST-SHARING AMOUNT FOR PEPRA MEMBERS WHEREAS, the Hayward Firefighters Bargaining Unit, Local 1909 and its members (collectively “Local 1909”) hired on or after January 1, 2013 are considered CalPERS PEPRA Fire New Members; and WHEREAS, CalPERS PEPRA Fire New Members will continue to a total of 15% of their salary to fund their retirement costs; and WHEREAS, effective July 1, 2023, CalPERS increased the employee contribution rate for PEPRA Fire New Members from the current rate of 10.5% to 11.25%, thus leaving a difference of 0.75% to be added to the member’s employer contribution to equal the previously agreed to 15% total contribution; and WHEREAS, for the City to report the correct contribution rate to CalPERS, an executed side letter with the exact percentage of cost-sharing, is required by CalPERS.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council hereby approve the executed side letter changing the existing cost-sharing amounts for PEPRA Fire members.
