Dear Mayor and City Council members, Interim City Manager and City Clerk,
I want to be in support of item 9 CON 24-233 The College Heights Concept Project.
It is the first project I have seen in Hayward that supports housing for Teachers in our community. As long as I have been around Alameda County and considered becoming a teacher I have NEVER KNOWN any project that supports local housing for local teachers.
This project finally does it. It is about time and a great idea.
It is proposed to keep costs affordable and accommodates singles as well as families.
It supports the environment and promotes community involvement. Parking and cars are to a minimum to support the City's plans, but shuttles and the bus are close.
This project can also reach out to the Hayward School District so when they recruit teachers they can say they have a support village for teachers, And then they might help them qualify for an apartment or home. That would be another first Hayward can offer:
Quality housing for their local teachers.
Please Council Members, support this project. Your support will bring in developers and investors. If we don't plan it and ask them they will NOT SAY YES.

Re: Agenda Item CONS-24-233 Adopt a Resolution in Support of the College Heights Concept Project
The Sierra Club supports Affordable and sustainable Housing and has long supported the Bayview Quarry Village/College Heights project in the Hayward hills near the Cal State East Bay Campus.
The project is proposed on land that was a former quarry site and also the part of the proposed State Route 238 Bypass Freeway. Now that the City of Hayward has reached an agreement with the State Department of Transportation for the development of the property, we are pleased to support the resolution for this project.
As noted in the Staff Report, this is project is still in the Concept stage. We urge the City Council to provide support to assist Hayward Area Planning Association and Dr Sherman Lewis in reaching an agreement with a Development Partner to move this to the Planning and Finance stage.
