RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPROPRIATE MEASURE C FUNDS FOR A CONCEPTUAL FACILITY AND SITE DESIGN PLAN FOR THE PROPOSED NEW PUBLIC SAFETY CENTER AT THE FORMER CALIFORNIA AIR NATIONAL GUARD SITE FOR A TOTAL NOT-TO-EXCEED AMOUNT OF $500,000 WHEREAS, the existing Hayward Police station no longer meets the space operational, staffing and security requirements for HPD; and WHEREAS, in 2020, the former California Air National Guard (CANG) site at West Winton Avenue and Tuskegee Airmen Drive was analyzed and preliminary reviews showed the site was sufficient to house the new Public Safety Center; and WHEREAS, in 2014, voters in the City approved Measure C which authorized the City to increase the sales tax rate by one-half cent for, among other things, the restoration and maintenance of City services and facilities; and WHEREAS, the City is evaluating the potential extension of Measure C beyond its current expiration of 2034; and WHEREAS, it is the desire that foundational work begin immediately on the conceptual facility and site design phase of a new Public Safety Center.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Hayward that the City Manager is hereby authorized to appropriate Measure C funds for a conceptual facility and site design plan for the proposed new Public Safety Center at the former CANG site for a total not-to-exceed amount of $500,000.
FURTUREMORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Hayward hereby approves and authorizes the amendment of the FY 2025 Budget Resolution by increasing the appropriation of $500,000 from Measure C for the conceptual facility and site design plan for the proposed new Public Safety Center.
