RESOLUTION APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE SIDE LETTER AGREEMENT AMENDING THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU), SECTION 10.01 DEFINED BENEFIT RETIRMENT PROGRAM BETWEEN THE CITY OF HAYWARD AND SERVICE EMPLOYEES INTERNATIONAL UNION, LOCAL 1021 – MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS (SEIU 1021), TO CORRECTLY REFLECT THE EMPLOYEE PAID COST-SHARE RETIREMENT CONTRIBUTION AMOUNT FOR CLASSIC AND PEPRA MEMBERS WHEREAS, the current MOU, Section 10.01 Defined Benefit Retirement Program between the City of Hayward and SEIU 1021, correctly reflects the employee paid employer cost-share contribution amount for Classic and PEPRA members, the employee paid cost-share amount was not implemented; and WHEREAS, the proposed change will correct this omission and effective December 30, 2024 (the pay period including January 1, 2025) increase by .5% to a total of 5.0%; and WHEREAS, the City agrees to amend its contract with CalPERS to allow employees to receive CalPERS credit for the additional contributions made to CalPERS on the City’s behalf.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE City Council hereby approves the correction to the MOU, Section 10.01 Defined Benefit Retirement Program provision for the period beginning of January 1, 2025, and until the parties agree otherwise, and authorizes staff to execute said agreements, a copy of which will be on file in the Office of the City Clerk.
