RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE APPROPRIATION OF $29,858 IN REVENUE FUNDS FROM LANDLORD REIMBURSEMENTS TO THE CITY FOR TENANT RELOCATION ASSISTANCE DUE TO A GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY’S ORDER TO VACATE AFTER LANDLORDS’ FAILURE TO PAY WHEREAS, Chapter 12, Article 2 (Tenant Relocation Assistance Ordinance) of the Hayward Municipal Code requires that landlords provide relocation assistance to tenants when a tenant is displaced due to a no-fault eviction, to temporarily displace tenants to complete need repairs, or in response to government order to vacate; and WHEREAS, Chapter 12, Article 2 (Tenant Relocation Assistance Ordinance) of the Hayward Municipal Code authorizes the City to provide tenants with relocation assistance when the landlord fails or refuses to provide relocation payments to a tenant due to a government agency’s order to vacate; and WHEREAS, the City allocated American Rescue Plan Act funds to provide emergency relocation assistance to tenants displaced from rental units due to a governmental agency’s order to vacate or natural disaster; and WHEREAS, the City has disbursed relocation assistance funds to tenant on behalf of landlords and received reimbursements in total of $29,858; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to continue to provide emergency relocation assistance from the funds repaid to the City; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Hayward hereby appropriates $29,858 in revenue funds from landlord reimbursements for relocation assistance due to a governmental agency’s order to vacate and allocates $29,858 to the emergency relocation assistance program.
