Dear Infrastructure & Airport Committee:

As a Hayward resident and bike rider and member of Bike Hayward, I'd like to see better biking infrastructure here in Hayward. While I haven't always agreed on how some projects have turned out, I'm happy to see this general plan to install a two-way protected bikeway on Ruus Road between Folsom Ave and Industrial Parkway. I much prefer this plan over bike lanes which run right alongside parked cars which don't have adequate buffer zones, which are not nearly as safe.

Running this two-way bikeway along a fenced section, and removing parking there makes a lot of sense. The few homes along that side look like they have plenty of driveway to handle any loss of street parking.

I have no stance on the intersection at Industrial or the proposed concrete islands, as I haven't seen the detailed plan yet.

Generally, I'm in support this plan.

Thank you,

Carl Gorringe
Bike Hayward
