RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT AND
APPROPRIATE AN ADDITIONAL $19,704 IN DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY GRANT FUNDING, INCREASING THE TOTAL GRANT AWARD TO $119,704, FOR THE STREETLIGHT CONVERSION TO LED PROJECT, PROJECT NO. 06935 WHEREAS, the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG), administered by the United States Department of Energy (DOE), has made funds available for selected local and tribal governments to reduce energy use, to reduce fossil fuel emissions, and to improve energy efficiency; and
WHEREAS, the US DOE awarded the City of Hayward funding to convert streetlight fixtures to LEDs; and
WHEREAS, the City of Hayward has installed thousands of LED lights on: Tennyson Road between Mission Boulevard and Tampa Avenue; on Mission and Foothill Boulevards; on Jackson Street between the BART tracks and Santa Clara Street; on C Street between Watkins Street and Foothill Boulevard; and on Main Street between C Street and A Street; and
WHEREAS, the City of Hayward has previously been awarded funding from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant which have been leveraged to install LED lights in some of the locations aforementioned; and
WHEREAS, on February 18, 2025, the City Council authorized the City Manager to accept $100,000 in EECBG funding for the streetlight retrofit project; and WHEREAS, the DOE subsequently allocated an additional $19,704 in EECBG funding to the City's streetlight retrofit project, increasing the total available grant funding from $100,000 to $119,704.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Hayward that the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to accept and appropriate the additional $19,704 in EECBG funding and modify the previously authorized grant amount from $100,000 to a total of $119,704 for the streetlight conversion project.
