Dear City Manager and Members of the Healdsburg City Council, Thank you for the continued conversations regarding expanded learning programming in Healdsburg.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin deeply values our partnership with the City of Healdsburg and Healdsburg Unified School District, and we appreciate the thoughtful approach being taken to identify the strongest long-term model for local students and families.
Healdsburg is a truly special community, and for more than 80 years the Boys & Girls Club has been part of its fabric. Generations of local families have grown up with the Club as a safe, welcoming place where young people can build friendships, receive support, and discover new opportunities. The deep pride and commitment this community has for its young people is one of the reasons Healdsburg continues to stand apart.
That commitment is reflected in the extraordinary investment currently underway in the future of Healdsburg youth. In March 2027, Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin will open a brand-new Clubhouse in Healdsburg designed to serve the next generation of young people and families for decades to come.
This transformational project reflects both our long-term commitment to the community and the strong belief shared by local residents, donors, and leaders that Healdsburg’s kids deserve exceptional opportunities and support.
We are already operating programs on the campuses of Healdsburg Elementary School and Healdsburg Junior High, giving us direct familiarity with the community, school culture, and student needs. Each year, the Healdsburg community helps raise more than $800,000 annually to support local youth through Boys & Girls Clubs programming, demonstrating the deep local investment in expanded learning opportunities and the success of a strong community partnership model.
As the largest out-of-school-time provider in Sonoma County, Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin brings extensive regional experience and operational capacity to this work. Each year we serve more than 11,000 young people across Sonoma and Marin counties, with more than 3,000 youth participating daily in our programs.
Through our Great Futures Pathway — Start Smart, Grow Strong, and Get Future Ready — we provide age-appropriate support that helps young people build strong academic foundations, develop resilience and confidence, and prepare for successful futures in school, work, and life.
We currently partner with 13 school districts to administer approximately $7.8 million in ELOP and $3.7 million in ASES funding, serving thousands of students annually throughout the region. Through these partnerships, we have developed strong systems and infrastructure to ensure high-quality programming, compliance, staffing, and fiscal stewardship.
Our organization offers:
• Proven expertise managing ELOP and ASES programs, including compliance, staffing, and fiscal oversight
• Established systems for data tracking, program quality, and audit readiness • Strong, long-standing relationships with schools, families, and community partners • Experienced leadership and operational infrastructure capable of supporting immediate implementation
• Programs that kids genuinely love and families trust
We understand that expanded learning programs are critical not only for academic support, but also for social-emotional development, family stability, and community connection. Most importantly, we approach this work as a long-term community partner invested in the success of Healdsburg’s young people.
As the City balances the needs of the community with current fiscal realities, we respectfully ask that these expanded learning for youth programs transition to Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin. We are confident in our ability to successfully steward the programs, support students and families, and ensure a smooth and stable transition for the community.
We are prepared to implement programming either at the start of the contract year on July 1, 2026, or at the beginning of the Fall 2026 school year.
We remain committed to working collaboratively with the City, district leadership, school staff, and families to ensure young people continue to have access to safe, high-quality expanded learning opportunities and that families retain strong program choices that best meet their needs.
We welcome the opportunity to continue discussions and provide any additional information that may support your evaluation process.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Weiss
