Arts & Culture Commission Recommendation
The Commission recommended to City Council approval of the murals with the following requests:
• Mural by Jake Messing: The Commission requested that the artist add additional flowers meaningful to Healdsburg's other cultures, so that the mural may reflect the community's full diversity and achieve the Multicultural Center Project’s goal of representing Healdsburg's many cultures.
• Mural by Blanca Molina: The Commission requested that the artist enhance traditional folklorico details by adding ribbons to the Oaxacan Mexican dancer’s braids and explore options for extending the mural design across the two windows for continuity.

Process
• The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation commissioned Corazón to design a participatory grant-making process which resulted in the creation of the Art and Culture Collective of Northern Sonoma County who shape how resources are invested in local artists and ensure funding reflects the communities they serve.
• Their work was evaluated and selected based on artistic merit, community impact, alignment with the collective’s goal, and accessibility. • Messing and Molina applied for and received funding for participatory mural designs in Healdsburg. Messing received a 'Diversity in the Arts' grant in 2025, and Molina received a 'Diversity in the Arts' grant in 2024.
