DISCUSSION:
HM Construction has completed all improvements on this pedestrian safety enhancement project. The work included a concrete-curbed pedestrian median refuge on Sycamore Avenue, bollards to create bulb-outs to reduce the vehicle/pedestrian conflict zone, a new high visibility ladder crosswalk, 3 Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) to alert drivers pedestrians are present, new curb ramps, and striping to channelize and narrow traffic lanes to slow automobiles down. Pedestrian barricades with “DO NOT CROSS” signs have also been installed at the Police Department driveway to prevent residents from the Arbors from crossing the street at this location.
With the completion of this project, safety has been greatly enhanced for pedestrians crossing Sycamore onto Civic to access the Library, Senior Center, and City Hall.
