STAFF REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL
DATE: Regular Meeting of March 25, 2025
TO: Mayor and Members of the City Council
VIA: Dante Hall, City Manager
SUBMITTED BY: Eibleis Melendez, City Clerk
SUBJECT: Commission and Committee Appointment
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Consider making an appointment to the Hercules Finance Commission to fill the remaining part of a two (2) year term.
DISCUSSION:
The Finance Commission currently has one vacant seat. The unscheduled vacancy is due to a commissioner who was unable to serve the remaining part of their term, which will expire on December 31, 2025. On November 4, 2024, a Special meeting was held to conduct Commission Interviews. The new Commissioners were then appointed at the next regular City Council meeting on December 10, 2024.
Resolution 10-068 established procedures governing appointments to City Council Advisory Bodies and Regional Committees and Boards. In Section D2 for Unscheduled Vacancies, the resolution states that if the unscheduled vacancy occurred within ninety (90) days after interviews for appointment to that Commission, the unscheduled vacancy may be filled by appointment of one of the individuals interviewed. Rupinder Sandhu applied and was interviewed for the Finance Commission but was not appointed at the time. Mr. Sandhu was notified of the vacancy and expressed interest in serving on the Finance Commission for the remainder of the term.
Staff recommends that Rupinder Sandhu be appointed to the Finance Commission and serve the remaining part of the term which will end December 31, 2025.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
