SUBJECT:

G & M Automotive and Towing Contract Amendment

RECOMMENDED ACTION
It is recommended that the City Council and Board of Directors of the Hesperia Water District authorize the City Manager to approve an amendment to the existing contract with G & M Automotive and Towing in the amount of $56,000, for a total not-to-exceed amount of $156,000, for on-road heavy equipment vehicle maintenance and repairs.

BACKGROUND
Preventative and corrective maintenance is required for the City and Hesperia Water District’s eighteen (18) on-road heavy duty vehicles and equipment that exceed one (1) ton, as determined by the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). These fleet services are necessary within the Water, Sewer, and Public Works Divisions.

ISSUES/ANALYSIS
Recently, a vactor truck that is utilized to perform proactive and reactive storm drain maintenance had a catastrophic engine failure. This truck is important to the City’s fleet to keep the storm drain system free of debris, which will allow for an appropriate flow of storm water. G & M Automotive and Towing (G & M) inspected the vactor truck and determined an engine replacement will be required. The current contract with G & M is for a not-to-exceed amount of $100,000 and an additional $56,000 for the amended not-to-exceed amount of $156,000 will be needed for the remainder of the fiscal year. The amendment to the contract is needed for the engine replacement.

FISCAL IMPACT
Funding of $56,000 for the engine replacement was not included in the Fiscal Year 2021-22 Budget and an amendment will be presented to the City Council and Water Board during the Mid-Year Budget Review.

ALTERNATIVES
Provide alternative direction to staff.
