SUBJECT:
Increase to Contract with Ferguson Waterworks
RECOMMENDED ACTION
It is recommended that the Board of Directors of the Hesperia Water District authorize the City Manager to increase the contract with Ferguson Waterworks in the amount of $50,000 for a new not-to-exceed amount of $175,000, for the purchase of DFW Plastics Inc. (DFW) meter boxes and lids.
BACKGROUND
The Hesperia Water District has standardized various services and repair products in order to minimize the need to stock multiple products and to simplify installation processes. Through standardization, the District utilizes DFW meter boxes, which Ferguson Waterworks is a direct distributor.
ISSUES/ANALYSIS
DFW manufactures polymer underground enclosures designed for advanced meter reading (AMR) technology. These are designed to replace concrete boxes of similar dimensions while offering additional working room inside the box for repair and maintenance of the meter. The lids are heavy duty polymer and can also fit existing concrete meter boxes. The polymer is blended to accommodate extreme weather conditions and to withstand inadvertent vehicular traffic. These lightweight boxes provide an easier installation process and will reduce physical effort on maintenance crews. This contract increase will allow the District to expand inventory as new orders can take nine months to receive due to a continued shortage of raw materials and labor.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding has been included in the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Water Operating Budget.
