RESOLUTION NO. 2024-05
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HESPERIA, CALIFORNIA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO THE PROPOSED BALLOT MEASURE W TO REPEAL THE SPECIAL TAX FOR SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT SERVICE ZONE FP-5.
WHEREAS, Proposed Measure W will be on the 2024 Presidential Primary Election Ballot on March 5, 2024, for residents living in County Fire service areas where Service Zone FP-5 supports fire service; and WHEREAS, this proposed ballot measure, gives voters in San Bernardino County the opportunity to retain or repeal Service Zone FP-5; and WHEREAS, FP-5 currently accounts for nearly 18% of County Fire’s annual operating budget and is not paid by property owners within the City of Hesperia; and WHEREAS, there is currently no replacement revenue available and if approved by the voters of San Bernardino County, the repeal of Measure W will eliminate funding for emergency medical and fire protection services causing the closure of numerous fire stations, expected increase in insurance premiums due to fewer available resources and increased paramedic response times; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Hesperia hereby opposes the repeal of Measure W Service Zone FP-5 special tax revenue.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF HESERIA CITY COUNCIL AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Hesperia does hereby not support to repeal the proposed ballot measure, Measure W, a special tax for San Bernardino County Fire Protection District Service Zone FP-5.
Section 2. That City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution and enter it into the book of original resolutions.
