SUBJECT:
Renewal of Disaster Recovery Service for the City’s Computing Systems
RECOMMENDED ACTION
It is recommended that the City Council authorize the City Manager to renew the City’s subscription to Nutanix Xi Leap Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) from Xentegra, for a not-to-exceed amount of $49,674.
BACKGROUND
When developing an organization’s disaster recovery plan, industry best-practices dictate a hybrid model that places multiple copies of mission critical data in both on-site and off-site repositories. As part of its ongoing initiative to strengthen the City’s cyber defenses, the Information Technology Division implemented the Nutanix Xi Leap DRaaS solution to create an extra layer of resiliency protecting critical data and applications. Nutanix Xi Leap is procured as an annual subscription through Xentegra, a leading reseller of Nutanix products and solutions.
ISSUES/ANALYSIS
As the solution primarily responsible for moving and storing critical City data to the cloud, Nutanix Xi Leap plays a key role in the IT Division’s comprehensive data backup and disaster recovery strategy. Broadly, Xi Leap orchestrates the transfer of vital data to the cloud, and allows easy retrieval of that data in the event of a disaster. To a limited extent, Xi Leap can restore access to certain applications and databases during a major data loss incident at the City Hall Datacenter. Xi Leap is provisioned on an annual basis through Xentegra, and as such need to be renewed for the coming year.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding for this subscription renewal is included in the Adopted FY 2023-24 Budget.
