Vehicle Procurement – One 4 X 4 Dump Truck
RECOMMENDED ACTION
It is recommended that the Board of Directors of the Hesperia Water District authorize the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Silveira Chevrolet in the not to exceed amount of $114,000, for the purchase of one (1) new 2023 Chevy Silverado 5500HD 4 X 4 truck with a 3-4 yard Scelzi dump body capacity for the Distribution Program.
BACKGROUND
An additional dump truck is needed for the Water District to complete projects more efficiently and will result in both the Water Distribution and Pipeline programs having two dump trucks each. This will ensure that an adequate number of vehicles are available in the event one experiences mechanical failure. It will also allow staff to operate more safely during adverse weather, as four-wheel drive improves traction during hazardous driving conditions.
ISSUES/ANALYSIS
The Public Works Division requested a quote for one (1) new four-wheel drive dump truck on May 9, 2024, soliciting bids from eight (8) dealerships both locally and out of the area to maximize bid response. A requirement was included for the vehicle to be delivered during Fiscal Year (FY) 2023-24. The bid closed on May 14, 2024, with Silveira Chevrolet being the only respondent. Staff recommends awarding the bid to Silveira Chevrolet, who have been deemed the lowest responsive/responsible vendor with a total bid amount of $114,000.
