2025 Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG)
RECOMMENDED ACTION
It is recommended that the City Council adopt Resolution No. 2026-47, accepting the allocation of $36,918 from the U.S. Department of Justice, for the purpose of partially funding operational overtime and training.
BACKGROUND
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) is a grant program which serves as the leading source of federal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. The JAG Program provides states, tribes, and local governments with critical funding necessary to support personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance, and information systems for criminal justice or civil proceedings.
ISSUES/ANALYSIS
The City of Hesperia will distribute its Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant funds for operational overtime and training. The allocation will fund deputies and necessary support personnel to enhance gang enforcement, gun violence, traffic enforcement, and narcotics investigations.

Public Safety – Ensure public safety resources adequately protect our community.
FISCAL IMPACT
The funds from this grant will supplement the existing police budget, and this will have no fiscal impact on the general budget.
