3. Update on Downtown Gateway Monument Sign
Senior Support Services Assistant Daisy Caceres gave a brief summary of the item and showed a presentation on what the signs would look like at the 3 proposed sign locations.Recreation Manager Tina Garza said that the Art and Cultural Commission recommended enhancements to the sign, including adding blue Benito lite rock or crystal on the pillars, and green vines (metal) to beautify the monument and represent the wineries in our area. She added that the Commission does not want barricades around the monument so it would like it to look more like a work of art.

Council Member Burns asked if the next time the Art and Culture Commission chair could come to the meeting to give their recommendations in person. Vice Mayor Perez said he agrees that it should not be on 5th Street, because it is too concentrated there with too many tall buildings and would look better in the middle of downtown by 7th Street.
