The Huntington Beach Fire Department has reviewed the Grand Jury report titled “Where’s the Fire? Stop Sending Fire Trucks to Medical Calls”. The report has been reviewed with our City leadership as well as our elected body. Below please find our formal response to the inquiries presented by the Grand Jury.
Responding to 911 calls to transport patients to the hospital is no longer the sum of our Emergency Medical Services (EMS) delivery in the City of Huntington Beach. Today, proactive efforts toward community risk reduction, attention to the underserved subsets of our community and an increasing demand for behavioral/mental health services are a necessary component of EMS.
