• Enhanced sidewalks and improved pedestrian
circulation
• Spaces for street amenities and furnishings
• Two-way vehicular travel
• New landscape, paving, and street lighting
• Gateway Art and connection to Pier Plaza
• Central public plaza with new paving
• Dedicated furnishing zones for dining adjacent
businesses
• New trees, paving, shade canopy and lighting
• Mural intersections at Walnut and Olive
• Enhanced sidewalks with some parking retained
• Spaces for street amenities and furnishings
• Two-way vehicular travel
• New landscape paving and street lighting
The sidewalk is an expanded pedestrian zone in blocks 1 & 3 by removing existing street parking, building on the concepts in the Downtown Specific Plan
The furnishings zone is moved adjacent the storefronts on all three blocks and allows for on-street dining, as well as space for seating or other amenities.
The plaza is maintained free of fixed furnishings adjacent the intersections to allow for emergency vehicle access onto the plaza
Some existing street parking is retained on the third block to support the existing retailers.
The Plaza is a new central public space that will cater to vistors and residents alike, and be an everday space that can also be programming for events.

Smart City Streetscape
Secure Bike Shelters have smart sharing systems, no physical keys, space saving design, e-bike charging, solar or battery powered, generate revenue
BigBelly Solar’s cans maximize the amount of trash they can hold (using compactors to contain 5x regular amount) and alert when pickup is necessary (with sensors and wi-fi inside the cans) and can have customized graphic wraps
Smart LED lighting saves energy, can be dimmed or brightened, can accomodate cameras and outlets.
Automatic public toilets such as Exeloo are self-contained (freestanding or integrated utilities), can be self-cleaning, have smart tech for maintenance, low water-use
A smart city uses different types of electronic method
and sensors to collect specific data. Information gained from that data is used to manage assets, resources and
services efficiently to improve operations across the city. (source: Wikipedia)
Examples include:
• Traffic - gathering traffic pattern data and then
controlling traffic lights
• Lighting - efficient LED lighting, dark sky compliance and automated dimming
• Power - solar or thermal to offset electricity use and metering
• Sanitation - utilizing compactors and sensors in trash receptacles
• Restrooms - smart public toilet facilities
• Irrigation - weather based controllers, soil monitor, detection of water leaks
• Furniture - charging and wifi benches, bike storage
• Mobile Apps - citizen input (report incidents, request city services, etc)
