I do not support a buffer of only 1,000 for cannabis use at retail sites. This is too close to many homes, and will DO NOT GO FORWARD WITH THIS, and pause until there is adequate public notice and discussion.

Dan - I just saw this on the agenda, and looked at the maps for potential retail sites in HB. These are very close to my home. I remember a few years back an illegal one popped up in that same area and it brought havoc to our neighborhood. While the operators go through a rigorous application process, the clientele that comes to these operators isn't always the cream of the crop.

I do not recall receiving any notice that you stated as being mailed out TWICE (just asked my mom who lives down the street, same answer), so no need to use all CAPS like over communication was used.

Send out a public notice to everyone in HB with the maps that are on the agenda item, circling in red where these locations can be. Voting on cannibas tax is one thing, seeing locations pop up around your house (or where they could) is another.

Hi Taylor,
Thank you for your email. I appreciate your input.

The process of legalizing retail sales is contemplated to be HIGHLY regulated. Store won't be popping up hear that there. There will be a rigorous application process requiring only the highest standards of operators.

I would ask what additional public notice you'd like to see? We've had two public forums, 6-8 public Planning and City Council meetings on the topic. Held public comment periods on proposed policy and maps for nearly 18 months and we've sent mail to EVERY voter in the city TWICE via public votes on the cannabis tax measure which included links to the City's cannabis policy website. I am very curious on what other public notice you'd like to see, as we're currently building out our public participation process and since we're all sort of 'inside the fence' we have blind spots on what the public sees as adequate public participation.

Thank you again for your note,

I do not support a buffer of only 1,000 for cannabis use at retail sites. This is too close to many homes, and will effect the quality of life of many surrounding homeowners and renters. Legalized businesses popping up all over HB will not improve anything in HB, rather just give more money via Tax for the city to spend. PLEASE DO NOT GO FORWARD WITH THIS, and pause until there is adequate public notice and discussion.

Subject: 11/15 Meeting - 22-969 - cannabis
Council members,
I am a resident of Huntington Beach, and I oppose item 22-969 seeking to end the cannabis prohibition in the city. The proposed map in particular is not well thought out. Retail cannabis should not be permitted anywhere near our schools or parks or any sensitive receptors. 600 feet from parks should not be the standard. If the city was to apply a 1000 feet limit for schools that same limit should apply to parks and other sensitive receptors for the safeguard of children. Looking at the proposed map, you will see how close cannabis sales would be to Lake Park. Children and families rely on our parks for recreation and health and those places should not be disturbed by cannabis, sales and use.

I urge you to vote for alternative action one and not proceed further with cannabis sales in the City. If you do decide to support cannabis, please consider greater distances for the buffer zones to protect schools parks, and sensitive, receptors. Minimum distance should be at least 1000 feet or more.

Thank you for your consideration,
Lucas Quass
