Subject: The Impact of the Pride Flag - WE EXIST
To whom it may concern,
The original pride flag had eight stripes, each with its own meaning. However, over time, the flag has been simplified to six stripes. Each of the six colors in the flag has its own significance

1. Red: represents life

2. Orange: represents healing

3. Yellow: represents sunlight

SUPPLEMENTAL

4. Green: represents nature COMMUNICATION
Meeting Date: 370003

5. Blue: represents harmony
Agendalem No: # 12(23-192).

6. Purple: represents spirit
Together, these colors symbolize the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community and the unity of its members. The flag is a way for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies to show their support and solidarity with the community and to promote acceptance and equality for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The pride flag is also a symbol of the progress that has been made in LGBTQ+ rights and a reminder of the ongoing work that still needs to be done to achieve full equality and acceptance for the community.

To remove the use of the Pride Flag during pride month, you are invalidating the experience of those who identify as LGBTQ+ and allies that live within your community. LESBIAN PEOPLE EXIST. GAY PEOPLE EXIST. BISEXUAL PEOPLE EXIST. TRANSGENDER PEOPLE EXIST. QUEER PEOPLE EXIST. STRAIGHT PEOPLE EXIST. AND YOU READING THIS, YOU EXIST. YOU CAN NOT ERASE DIFFERENT IDENITIES WITHIN YOUR COMMUNITY.
1 Please do not ban the Pride Flag during Pride Month. People within the LGBTQ+ community face discrimination everyday. Pride Month represents the progress made in LGBTQ+ rights and to promote continued advocacy and activism for full equality and acceptance.

LETS CO-EXIST.

Dear Council Members,
As a resident of Huntington Beach, you did not represent my voice when you voted to suspend flying the PRIDE Flag and voted in support of the ordinance proposed by Council Member Burns. I ask that at the next City Council meeting you vote to keep flying the PRIDE flag as a symbol of unity and acceptance. Vote to show that Huntington Beach is an accepting, inclusive and safe city for their LGBTQ+ Residents and all those... who visit here. Our city hall is directly across the street from a high school (actually two- one public and one private). Show these children that they are ALL accepted. Show the police officers and other city employees on the city campus that the city they work to support values all of them.

Sincerely,
Yelena Morri

Subject: Agenda to have a flag in HB
I'm a HB resident! And along with many families that love our City and Country- we stand for freedom! That's what the American Flag represents! But the whole conflict of not loving all or being inclusive because many don't want a certain flag flown over our city... isn't because we don't love the people in our community! It's because we don't care about how they have sex or what they do to their bodies! Or how they love to have sex with minors! It's what that flag and the colors represent... have you done your research? They are still adding colors to that flag... but let's look at purple....do you want "destruction of the traditional family" that is mostly HB residence?
And now with the light blue and light pink... saying they like little girls and little boys (minors)! Do you find any of this gutt wrenching? And you want to wave this in our city? If we allow this- then you should have a flag for our Native Americans that we stole their land, A flag for the patriots that fought for freedom, A flag for vegans no meat, A flag for Ocean safety- since we are by the Ocean- oh- what about for people that don't like to wear shoes, A flag for people that love "traditional family"... Do you get it?! And look at these colors - do your research...

Why is this even on the table?
- COLORED RAINBOW
RED ------> SODOMY
ORANGE ---> UNNATURAL DESIRE

YELLOW -- EARLY SEXUALIZATION OF CHILDREN
GREEN -----> REJECTION OF THE CREATIVE PLAN
BLUE ------> BODY Mutilation
PURPLE ----> DESTRUCTION OF THE TRADITIONAL FAMILY

Subject: HB flag issue
Dear Council Members,
I was dismayed to watch our recent city council meeting and see the steps taken by our new council members. I want to thank the dissenting members of council, Mr. Kalmick, Ms. Moser and Ms. Bolton, for their well- thought and reasoned arguments. It was heartening to see that there are still some voices of reason in council. It was dismaying to see those voices ignored and overruled without consideration.

As an employer and resident in Huntington Beach, you did not represent my voice when you voted in support of the new flag ordinance proposed by Council Member Burns. You were elected to a non-partisan position where you are to represent your constituents' voices. In my experience, the majority of Huntington Beach residents support the LGBTQ+ community and want the PRIDE flag to fly during the month of June. I ask that at the next City Council meeting you vote to keep flying the PRIDE flag as a symbol of unity and acceptance.

Additionally, please consider how this measure will negatively impact our city and the business conducted here.

The negative press generated by this move is harming our public image and discouraging people from visiting our city and supporting our businesses. Vote to show that Huntington Beach is an accepting, inclusive and safe city for their LGBTQ+ residents and all those who live, work or visit here.

Sincerely,
Steve Healy
longtime HB resident and small business owner

Dear City Council Members,
I do not live in Huntington Beach, but I support inclusivity and the LGBTQ+ Community. Voting to pass an ordinance that would ban the flying of the PRIDE Flag shows that Huntington Beach is not an accepting, inclusive and safe city for the LGBTQ+ community. When I make the decision where I will go to spend the day at the beach, where I will go to shop, where I will go to vacation, I look for cities that value equality, such as Long Beach, Costa Mesa and Laguna Niguel. Those cities are just as easy for me to go to, AND they show that they value the LGBTQ+ members of their city, unlike Huntington Beach, by flying the PRIDE flag in June.

Subject: Pride flag removal
HB City Council:

I was raised to avoid harming others, and I am sure you were as well. That is how it used to be here in our beloved nation. But these days it seems that causing pain is growing in popularity. Sadly, cruelty in this decade can fill stadiums.

There are people going on television, becoming politicians, and writing laws, who want us to believe that LGBTQ persons are a danger to our children and our communities. NOTHING could be farther from the truth.

LGBTQ people are victims of violence and hate around the world, and at home in our communities.

The simple gesture of raising the Pride flag in June is an act of inclusiveness and love. Reversing course like this, and refusing to raise the Pride flag in the future is a hurtful act against a peaceful community. It serves no purpose other than to inspire those that hate to give attention, money, and votes to those who would harm others so casually. It pulls up the "welcome" mat and tells LGBTQ people they are not welcome here.

People in the LGBTQ community are great neighbors, customers, and visitors. You are harming HB with this decision.

I hope you will approach your responsibilities to your community with an open, and loving heart, as Jesus would, and reconsider your decision to remove the Pride flag, I urge you to choose love and acceptance over hate and bigotry.

Regards,
Renee Wilcox

Subject: On The Importance of Flying the Pride Flag
Dear Huntington Beach City Council Members,
My name is Beck and I am the Systems Change Advocate for the Dayle Mcintosh Center for the Disabled (otherwise known as DMC) in Orange County, CA. DMC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides services to people with disabilities and facilitates equal access and inclusion within the community. There is a strong intersection between the disability and the LGBTQIA2-S+ communities. It is for this reason that I am emailing you today to encourage you to fly the LGBTQ Rainbow Pride Flag in Huntington Beach.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I know firsthand the importance of visible support. In this unprecedented time, LGBTQ folks—especially folks who are trans—are having their rights stripped from them across the nation. Just this week, lowa state legislators have proposed banning same sex marriage in their state. Tennessee has passed a ban on drag shows which also could negatively impact trans people. Many other states-such as Texas-are also working on such a ban. Now more than ever, California needs to show up for the LGBTQ+ community in any way it can.

Taking down the pride flag would send the message that the city of Huntington Beach-and its council members-do not support our community. Simply proposing this is a slight against the LGBTQ+ community. Passing this ban will cement Huntington Beach as an unsafe place for the LGBTQ+ community. This makes me incredibly sad as my partner (who is Bisexual) has lived in Huntington Beach almost his entire life.

Please work to support my partner-and my community's-safety. Please keep the pride flag flying in Huntington Beach.

Most Sincerely,
Beck

Good morning City Council,
I am writing to say I disagree with the decision to not fly the Pride Flag in June. And not just not fly it, but to create an ordinance to prevent a lifelong Huntington Beach resident, like to think of ts being lose Smear d I support their efforts to help those who feel mareinalized be includi Please change your minds and make Huntington Beach an all-inclusive city.

Also, why would you allow the POW-MIA flag (a specific group of people) and not the Pride flag (a specific group of people)? Seems very biased to me.

Subject: LGBT+ Flag at City Hall
To the Huntington Beach City Council:

I am reaching out to express my deepest disappointment in your recent decision to remove the Pride flag in Huntington Beach city hall. It is extremely disheartening to see such a major step back in the progress that has been made over the past few years to show the same respect to our LGBTQ+ community that seems to be so freely granted to others.

Councilman Pat Burns stated that flying the flag "could easily or mistakenly be perceived as divisive". Is acceptance divisive? Is loving and seeing our neighbors for who they are divisive? Is love divisive? If your council believes it is not the government's place to provide an opinion on social justice issues, please explain to me why they believe the government should suppress our freedom of expression, our right to be seen and recognized.

We fly California's flag because we are proud to live in such a beautiful state that protects the best interests of its people. We fly the American flag out of respect for our country and the everyday folks who work, live, and give their lives to maintain its greatness.

It is disheartening that you cannot see we fly the Pride flag for the same reasons: to respect those of us who are often mistreated, unheard, and unseen. To have our hearts swell with pride that we can love and live the same way as every other citizen can in this country, because someone before us fought for our freedoms. Is that not the legacy we are proud of in this country? Our history of fighting for our freedoms and liberties? I do hope you re-consider this decision. I would like to believe that the hundreds of voices from your very own community matter in your hearts and minds, that our wellbeing as your constituents holds value. At the end of the day, our communities are the reason for your role. It is your duty and responsibility to do right by them. This decision goes against that promise.

Best,
Ruby Nuñez
