Subject: Oak View Library
I would very much support building a new branch library at Oak View. While I do not know the age of the current building I think it would be a great benefit for the community.

I worked as a volunteer tutor starting around 2012. I have seen how the community uses the library for many reasons:

First, the library functions as a vital resource for learners to become fluent in English and be able to communicate better at work and most importantly, with their children's teachers. What is more, it holds classes to prepare to take the exam to become a citizen. I think the greatest benefit to learning English is to become a citizen and be able to vote.

There is the Homework Club where the children are able to get the help they can't get at home The library also serves as a center of activity for the community with its lottery games attended by entire families, book club discussions, etc.

It also offers lectures encouraging those who attend to set up and strive to reach a higher educational level.

The space is always being utilized and at times may exceed the fire Department regulations.

In planning for a new building you would be showing that the needs of the poorest families in Huntington Beach are recognized.

Sincerely,
Teresita Diaz

Subject: Supporting Oak View Library and Community Center Conceptual Plan Dear Council Members and Study Group:

As a Board Member for the Huntington Beach Public Library Adult Literacy Program, I am writing to strongly support the Oak View Library and Community Center Conceptual Plan. Oak View serves a vital part of the community and the aging infrastructure and tight spaces are not conducive to conducting the myriad of important programs offered to the local neighborhood and community. Enhanced and refreshed facilities would create a more inviting atmosphere where people of all ages would enjoy visiting and benefit from ongoing programs. I strongly encourage you to consider this important proposal.

Best regards,
Dr. Sheila A. Thomas

Subject: Study Session-5-2-23 OakView Library and Community Center May 2, 2023
Dear Mayor Strickland and HB City Councilmembers,
This is Laura Sire, a very long time resident of Huntington Beach. I am also a retired teacher who taught in a community much like OakView, which is likely why it is near and dear to my heart.

I enjoy volunteering for the community in any way possible. I have participated in food distributions, vaccine clinics, Saturday morning clean-ups and even had the privilege of working with the nonprofit, BCIS and Oscar Rodriguez in assisting a young woman and her daughter in attaining affordable housing in Oak View.

I'm writing today in strong support of the
proposed beautiful new Oak View Library and Community Center. The completion of this project would be of immense benefit to the
Oak View Community, the City of Huntington Beach, and frankly a "dream come true." Dreams often take vision, hard work, and often funding. I urge you Councilmembers to support this critical project and its funding needs in every way possible. An approved Housing Element can not be ignored as an important factor in making this happen.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration. I appreciate your hard work and dedication to our city.

Subject: Proposed Oak View Development - Library, Community Center, etc. May 2, 2023 Meetings
I am a 38 year resident of Huntington Beach, and one of the English Literacy volunteer tutors at the Oak View Branch Library, and I would like to show my support for this magnificent proposed development plan.

Oak View Branch Library supports a very active and vibrant community, and is well attended by both adults and children, so space is always at a premium.

Presently, tutoring takes place within the library, in a tiny corner set aside for this purpose, and occasionally, if it's extra busy, over-spills into the Children's Section.

The current library building is small and because of our close proximity to everything that is going on, it is sometimes difficult to hear and to communicate well with our English language learners. With so many other activities going on around us, it's often difficult to focus and can be very distracting.

A dedicated quiet space for our Oak View Literacy Program within the new proposed library building would indeed be most welcome and beneficial to all involved in the Program.

I heartedly support improvements and expansion of the Oak View Library in our city. The present library is well used by the community and not just for getting books. Investing in literacy and community well being is a very worthy endeavor.

Dear members of the City Council,
Please support the plan for a new Oakview Library and Community Center. I have been a literacy volunteer there since 2004 and have never worked with an organization that contributed so much to so many people with such limited space. You will not find a friendlier or more hard working staff in HB.

Thank you for supporting the plan for a new Oakview Library and Community Center.
