The Mayor of Huntington Beach

My Dear Mister Mayor,
I am writing to express my support for Item XXVIA, and to ask for consideration of an amendment to XXVIB.

I support the creation of a charter review committee. The previous discussion by council ignored several desired charter amendments. In particular, I believe the committee should discuss the possibility of having a referendum to revise section 803 of the city charter, to allow the city council to discuss the possibility of a rent stabilization ordinance for mobile home residents. The city council needs to address this issue eventually, and I support allowing the city council to consider all possible solutions by revising the charter. Consideration might also be made to reviewing the procedure for filing a council vacancy. I take no position on the selection of committeemen, recognizing that this is the Mayor's prerogative.

I would like to urge an amendment to Item XXVIB to strike the words "March 5..." and add the words "November

5..." General elections often have a higher voter turnout, and I believe it is important the most electors possible be included in revising our city charter, a fundamental document. I am concerned that with the amount of time needed by the charter review committee to review the charter, and for the council to discuss any recommended referenda, there will not be enough time for organized campaigns by those who support and those who oppose the proposed referenda. Campaigning has already begun for many of the races on March 5.

Thank you for considering my thoughts on Item XXVI.

Sincerely Yours,
Mr. Amory Hanson

Subject: Item #26 - ad hoc City Charter committee -- opposed m astonished that a council member who ran for office opposing changes to the City Charter is already proposing another ad ho ommittee of the Mavor and his hand-picked helpers to chande the citv charte If changes are really necessary, an ad hoc committee of insiders is not the way to go. We need an open, transparent committee of citizens from across the political spectrum to make changes that are in the interest of the city, not of the current party in power.

Please Defeat item 26
Thanks for listening
