Subject: Agenda Item #21: Resolution in Support of Israel Members of the City Council and staff, I am much more concerned about your support for the Jewish community in HunƟngton Beach and condemnaƟon of aƩacks on them than on your feelings, however well‐intenƟoned, about the state of Israel.
Since January, this Council majority has:
‐ “Fir
ed” the Interfaith Council from providing meeƟng invocaƟons and used only ChrisƟan chaplains for invocaƟons ‐ Disbanded the city’s Human RelaƟons commiƩee
‐ Removed condemnaƟon of hate crimes from the city’s DeclaraƟon On Human Dignity ‐ Watered down a statement condemning the disseminaƟon of anƟsemiƟc flier s in our neighborhoods ‐ Censured a Council member for quesƟoning the moƟves behind some of these acƟons You could have used your 10/17 meeƟng as an opportunity repair some of these bridges — to bring local leaders together in support of our f aith communiƟes. But you have chosen not to.
Why? What message are you really trying to send? That is the resoluƟon that needs to be made in place of this one. 10/17/2023
