TO: Mayor and City Councilmembers
FROM: Robin Estanislau, City Clerk
DATE: November 7, 2023

SUBJECT: Supplemental communication for Consent Item No. 8 – Two proposed revisions to the October 17, 2023 regular meeting minutes The following revisions are proposed for Page 21 of the October 17, 2023 regular meeting minutes.

Under Agenda Item #21 (23-894):

Paragraph 8

Councilmember Bolton proposed a friendly amendment, based upon her personal conversation with a local Jewish leader, to add to the third paragraph, “that the City publicly expresses sympathy for those Israelis and Palestinian civilians who are suffering dying, or being held hostage,” and add a fourth paragraph, “The City supports and stands with our community members who have family and friends in Israel and Gaza, and denounces anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in any form or place.” Paragraph 9
Mayor Strickland shared his opinion that the proposed changes could create the impression that Israel is as responsible as Hamas for the lost lives, and that is not factually correct.  He noted he also reached out to American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) the Israeli community in helping to draft this resolution.

If approved, Consent Item No. 8 will be approved as amended by Supplemental Communication.
