City Council:

Why did the City Attorney announce yesterday on Facebook that he intended to appeal the Federal Court’s decision? Isn’t the City Attorney required to get your authorization for legal action? How could that have happened without a meeting? Or does he get to do whatever he wants? You are wasting more City money if you authorize the City Attorney to appeal the Federal court’s decision.

Stop wasting the taxpayer’s money on these losing efforts.

City Council:

Why did City Attorney Gates state in an interview (published Tuesday November 14, 2023) that he would appeal Judge F.W. Slaughter's decision prior to obtaining the approval to do so by the City Council.

Isn't the City Attorney required to obtain approval from you, the City Council, prior to initiating
litigation?

To: CITY COUNCIL (INCL. CMO STAFF); [email protected] Subject: Bleak budget ahead
Date: Tuesday, November 21, 2023 7:37:49 AM
With the bleak budget ahead, the council must avoid the further draining of funds. So avoid lawsuits by following the law. Our mayor with a background in election finance fraud, fined by the FPPC, Fair Political Practices Commission, should not take over elections from Orange County. It looks sneaky and costs are huge. Keep our charter, recognize the dignity of all human beings, guarantee freedom to read for all residents, respect librarians, teachers, the medical community and scientists. Be responsible with our tax money. Deliver us from debt with smart humane choices.

Nora Pedersen
37 year resident, voter and tax payer
