To say that I am shocked that the City Council Board Majority would think that their personal opinion would reflect that of the citizens is ludicrous. This type of statement continues to make this city a point of laughter in Southern California.
This is insane!

You do not represent me in your desire to express solidarity with Texas on any matter, and especially the on our country’s border issue. I vehemently disagree with this agenda item.

A STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY WITH TEXAS????
What on earth is wrong with this city council? Partisanship seems to be the answer. The City Council is supposed to represent the best interests of the people of Huntington Beach, not only the interests of those who vote Republican.
Why, then, is time being wasted composing Democrat-bashing statements of solidarity with a Republican governor in another state intent on taking away the rights of numerous groups — including women, people of color, LGBQT+ people, and
immigrants?
Comparing the Biden administration’s purported (not actual) “open border” policy and Governor Newsom’s housing
mandates to Governor Abbott’s horrific treatment of
undocumented immigrants is false equivalency. Neither Biden nor Newsom are violating federal law, erecting razor wire that endangers human lives, dumping undocumented immigrants in other cities, or joking about shooting immigrants if only it weren’t illegal.
Councilman Burns needs to quit injecting his personal political beliefs into the City Council agenda and concentrate more on things that actually affect us right here in Huntington Beach — like balancing the budget, resolving the homeless
problem, maintaining our city streets and sidewalks, and doing something about the speeding/noisy vehicles taking over our streets — threatening our safety and disturbing the peace.
The misguided Statement of Solidarity with Texas should be voted down and thrown in the trash where it belongs. It’s one man’s opinion, not the general consensus of the majority of citizens in our city. Let’s not turn Huntington Beach into another Texas or Florida. Enough damage has already been done with the flag policy and library books. We’re becoming the laughingstock of the nation.

I do not support Item 14 - Statement of
Solidarity with Texas. I think this item is a
disobedient declaration to congress regarding
the unlawful use of barbed wire. The city
should not partake in this. I believe what has
already been approved is adequate & do not
believe that natural resources should be used to
wall off the Rio Grande River. This item is
more like a ponzi scheme that imprisons the
boundaries of the country & not a plan for the
future. I think the people behind this
initiative arbitrarily do not believe that
alternative space technology can be
discovered & seek to end the world.

This is NOT TEXAS. You guys are so embarrassing to the city of Huntington Beach and we are so damn upset any of you were elected. Focus on the problems in the city. Shame on you. Your kids have nothing to be proud of, only to be fearful of people finding out they’re any of your offsprings. Hitler as hell you all are. Do not texas our California with their THIRD WORLD CITIZEN RIGHTS.
Humiliating. God said
“Give me your tired. Your poor. Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me:
I life my lamp beside the golden door.”
We DO NOT STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH TEXAS. Focus on our children’s education. OVSD is garbage. Fix it.

Dear Mayor Stricklin and City Council members,
I am in support of your Statement of Solidarity with Texas letter. I believe this letter is warranted, our open borders affect every city in the United States. President Biden’s open border policies are dangerous. This invasion of illegal immigrants includes human traffickers, drug dealers, terrorists, rapists and killers, this needs to stop.
Please support Article 4 Section 4 of the U.S Constitution by signing your Statement of Solidarity letter with Texas.

No on this embarrassing opinion piece from Pat Burns, filled with self-pity and grievance. It has nothing to do with the city council's job and is a waste of time and resources. It is not right that one city council member is using the council, and the city, as a platform to formalize their personal opinions. I was not given an opportunity to weigh in on this frivolous drivel. It does not speak for me, and I'm sure many others, and we would appreciate it if you did your job instead of whining about everything.

Dear City Council,
Please do not sign this Statement of Solidarity with Texas. It's divisive and unnecessary. It will do nothing but tarnish our reputation and very likely even deter people from wanting to associate with Huntington Beach. This is the kind of thing that can affect Tourism, Meetings/Events and overall commerce in a very negative way.
And all for what? So that you can rile people up and show them HB is now a MAGA governed city?
It’s an unnecessary waste of your time and our $ to do this. Please grow up and start doing positive work for our city.
Thank you,
Kevin Sanford

Dear City Council Members,
I am writing to strongly protest, your statement of solidarity, with the state of Texas. You do not speak for the city of Huntington Beach. We do not have consensus on this issue at all.
I stand for humane policies that treat asylum seekers as human beings. I am saddened and disappointed with the city council. You can guarantee that I will be there at the polls to vote out every member of the council who supports this statement.
Sincerely,

Dear Huntington Beach City Council,
I am a resident of Huntington Beach concerned about the City Council Liaisons List linked to item 24-112. The council members are not represented equally: Bolton, Kalmick and Moser are severely underrepresented. All viewpoints must be represented in a democracy, and this list should be revised prior to acceptance.
I am also greatly concerned about item 24-101. Why is the city council of Huntington Beach voting in Solidarity with the State of Texas? This is a political issue of national concern and there are multiple viewpoints on the best path forward for immigration reform. Each of us may have an opinion, but the City of Huntington Beach does not have ONE opinion, and more importantly, it is not in the purview of the City Council to show solidarity with Texas.
Thank you for welcoming and respecting a wide range of opinions as an elected City Council member for the City of Huntington Beach!
