Naming Process
Commission assign the naming to the Park Naming & Memorials Committee at their May 8, 2024, meeting.
Committee met twice. At the June 28, 2024 meeting, the Committee reviewed the naming criteria in Resolution 2017-25, names of eligible past Mayors, and was informed of a survey soliciting naming suggestions from the public.
July 12, 2024 Committee meeting review the survey results:
163 respondents
167 names suggested
16 existing park names were disqualified, per
resolution 2017-25, Section 9
Of the remaining names, the Committee considered the top 3 suggested names, with an overwhelming majority of the public voting for Huntington Central Park Nature Plateau, or a variation thereof.
Committee concurred with the publics suggestion and forwarded the name to the Commission.
At the August 14, 2024 meeting of the Community & Library Services Commission, the item was approved, 6-0-1, to forward the naming as recommended by the Committee to City Council for final approval Naming Process

Approve the naming of the area of Huntington Central Park referred to as “Huntington Central Park Nature Plateau,” as recommended by the Community & Library Services Commission.
