Discussion Items
1. Federal Legislative Update: None.
2. State Update- Louie Brown, Kahn Soares & Conway
Legislative session wrapped up. Waiting on Governor to act on items, and he has until September to do so. Governor has called for a special session regarding gas prices and refiners, and a new committee was created in the Assembly to review this. They met for the first time. However, the Senate has not met in special session regarding th is issue. The California Energy Commission stated that the plans with likely result in increased gas prices.
Louie will keep updated on special session happenings.
3. Legislation
Proposition 33 – Expands Local Governments’ Authority to Enact Rent Control on Residential Property, Initiative Statute. Allows local governments to control local implementation of rental control by act of their jurisdiction Councils. Would result in some wide sweeping adoption of new rent control laws in larger cities. The Governors of Neighboring States have written opinions in opposition.
IRC vote 3-0 to oppose Proposition 33.
