Subject: SUPPORT for Bolsa Chica Senior Care
Dear Members of the Huntington Beach City Council,
On behalf of People for Housing Orange County, I am writing to express my strong support for the proposed senior assisted living development in Huntington Beach. As we face increasing housing challenges across all demographics, it is essential to consider innovative solutions that not only address the needs of our senior population but also contribute to the overall health of the housing market.
Building new housing specifically designed for seniors serves a dual purpose: it provides essential support and care for our aging population while simultaneously freeing up existing housing stock that can be utilized by younger families. Many seniors currently reside in larger homes that may no longer meet their needs, but these homes represent valuable opportunities for younger families seeking affordable housing. By creating dedicated assisted living spaces, we enable seniors to transition to environments that better suit their lifestyle, allowing their former residences to enter the market for younger buyers.
This process fosters much-needed churn in the housing market. As seniors move into assisted living, their homes become available for families looking for more space, and this can help alleviate some of the pressure we see in the housing inventory. Moreover, investing in senior assisted living is an investment in the well-being of our community. It enhances the quality of life for our seniors, ensuring they receive the support they need while encouraging a vibrant intergenerational community. When seniors have access to 10/15/2024
18 (24-710)
proper care and housing, they can continue to engage with their families and neighborhoods, contributing their wisdom and experience.
In conclusion, I urge you to support the development of the Bolsa Chica Senior Care assisted living and memory care. By doing so, we can address the needs of our seniors and help revitalize the housing market for younger families, creating a healthier, more dynamic community for all.
Thank you for considering this vital development.
Sincerely,
