Acquisition of Encyclopedia Lots in Huntington Central Park West APNs: 110-184-10 & 110-164-06
November 19, 2024
Background
In the early 1900s, small parcels known as “encyclopedia lots’ were given as promotional items with encyclopedia purchases.
Located on the north side of Ellis Avenue, between Edwards Street and Goldenwest Street, these lots are now part of Huntington Central Park West.
Since the mid-1980s, the City has acquired all but 29 of the original 300 lots, furthering efforts to consolidate land for park use.
Current Donation Opportunity
Charles B. Kimball has offered to donate two encyclopedia lots to the City.
These lots will be consolidated into Huntington Central Park West, furthering the City’s goal of unified park ownership.
No fiscal impact, as the lots are donated, making this a cost-effective acquisition.
Recommendation
Approve the agreement to accept the donation of APNs 110-184-10 and 110-164-06.
Authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to execute the agreement and finalize the property transfer.
Upon approval, the City Attorney will prepare the necessary deed for transfer, and the City Clerk will complete the property recording.
