You don't often get email from [email protected]. Learn why this is important Council Members,
The Council is to be a non-political

group doing what is best for the community as a whole.

I am extremely disappointed in the continued
partisan

behaviors exhibited by the Council as a whole.

1. Throwing your political weight

around has intimidated the School Administration to such a point that Chris Kluew was fired from his job at Edison

High
School for expressing his Constitutional

Right in a peaceful manner is appalling.

At a local level, you are mirroring the disrespect being demonstrated by your President toward anyone who disagrees with him and threatening anyone who holds a different perspective.

We are not living in the 1930's Germany!

2. It is critical the two library proposals be voted upon by members of the community - without Council further attempts at intimidation.

Again, this is NOT
1930's Germany where intimidation is a weapon to be used on members of OUR community.

3. Members of the Counsel have presented themselves as having Christian values,

If that is you, you ARE NOT REPRESENTING THE KEY COMPONENT OF JESUS' TEACHINGS - TREAT THY NEIGHBOR AS THY SELF!

You don't often get email from [email protected]. Learn why this is important To HB City Council:

I'm writing in support of holding a special election for the two library issues. I DO NOT want a parent/guardian book review board AND I DO NOT want you to attempt to outsource privatizing the PUBLIC library. We should have voted on these issues the last election on February 23!!
The signatures on the two petitions were collected and handed into the city. Stop dragging your feet and do your job!! REPRESENT US, not your own agenda!! Jennie Austin

Dear HB City Council,
I am writing to request that a Special Election be held so that the citizens of Huntington Beach can vote on the two legal petitions that were submitted and verified by the Registrar of Voters. Waiting for the next "regularly scheduled election" is an intentional attempt to subvert the will of the people--the citizens of HB who signed both petitions.

We will see you Tuesday night at the Council meeting to address this face-to-face during public input time,
Thank you,

I am writing to support the calling of a Special Election to let the Huntington Beach citizens vote on these two measures. You have managed to slow this entire process down since the petitions were submitted in 2024; sow doubt as to the veracity of the signatures (falsely) by sending out questionable email surveys and phone calls from out of state individuals; and used your positions to lie about what these two measures mean to our PUBLIC library.

No doubt tonight you will argue about the cost of a Special Election. If you would stop suing the State of California over issues you WILL NOT WIN, then, perhaps our Budget forecast wouldn't be so dire and this issue wouldn't have to wait until 2026.

The fact that you are holding a press conference to lie about pornography in our library now that the ACLU has filed suit with young HB citizens shows your total disregard for budgetary problems when it suits YOUR agenda. So sad that all of the press Huntington Beach gets because of your agenda is negative enough to keep people away. When newspapers like the NY Times write the truth about what's going on at the HB City Council you might want to consider what your message is doing to tourism.

Sadly, I'm sure you'll disregard all of the messages you receive in emails and the speeches by concerned citizens as you always do when it comes to a vote,

To: CITY COUNCIL (INCL. CMO STAFF) <[email protected]> Subject: Outsourcing of library operations and review of children's books (Agenda items 17 & 18)

I would like to join with many in my community to protest the outsourcing of library operations and the parental review of children's books in the library.

I have lived in Huntington Beach since 1997 and consider the Huntington Beach library system a stunning resource for our community. Not only is the library beautiful and well maintained, the selection of resources is outstanding including but not limited to books, e-books, audio books, movies, music, Maker Space, literacy services and preparation for US citizenship.

I myself have worked as a volunteer in the Adult and Teen LIteracy Services department both as a tutor and assisting people with use of the learning materials, both books and computer resources. I was impressed by the competence, knowledge, professionalism, and kindness of the staff-both paid and volunteer. And also by the dedication of the students in the adult literacy program.

The library is already working very well. So if it's not broken, why fix it? And so much of the work is carried out by dedicated volunteers who support library services without draining the budget.

On the second issue, I find the idea of 21 faceless, nameless unelected persons overriding the judgement of trained librarians as to which books are appropriate for children as offensive. If any particular book is troubling to a parent, they can simply not select that book for their child rather than limiting materials for everyone else.

I used the children's section of the library extensively when my children were young. It was always a fun outing, bringing home piles of books, sometimes attending a program by the librarians, watching the fish in the large tank, and always throwing a penny in the fountain for a wish. I never found any book objectionable.

I would like to have the library operations maintained as they have been and the permanent dissolution of the 21 parent review board for the children's library.

At least put these issues to a community vote. This certainly seems more fair than imposing these changes upon all of us when it is clear that so many people are opposed as evidenced by the petitions you have received.

Sincerely,
Che Chereskin

Subject: 25-108 Adopt Resolution No. 2025-13
Date: Monday, March 3, 2025 3:54:43 PM
I am requesting that the City Council repeal Ordinance No. 4318, which established the Community-Parent Guardian Review Board to review all new materials in the children’s library. Nearly a year has passed since this ordinance was adopted, yet no board members have been appointed due to concerns about potential lawsuits. With the city facing a multi- million dollar deficit, I respectfully urge the City Council to simply remove this ordinance from the municipal code. If the City Council insists on further expenditure of our taxpayer dollars, it should hold a special election (Recommendation B) and let the people decide this matter.

Subject: 25-153 & 25-155; Item #s 22 & 23 Library Petitions Date: Tuesday, March 4, 2025 7:00:21 AM
In light of the severe budgetary concerns facing Huntington Beach, the fiscally responsible thing for city council to do would have been to adopt both measures. Adopting the measure to repeal the book review committee would also have avoided potential lawsuits regarding the illegal book review committee.

The options to approve both measures regarding the library petitions were listed on the 2/18/25 agenda as items #22, 25-087 and #23, 25-126. Unfortunately the options to approve the measures were not discussed at the 2/18/25 council meeting, were apparently discussed privately among city council members, and have been eliminated from public view on the current agenda. Your continued lack of transparency is shameful.

I understand peoples' concerns around the availability of pornographic materials in a children's library. However you have failed to identify any pornographic materials in the HB library and you have succeeded in drawing a great deal of media attention to Huntington Beach, and to yourselves. It is clear that you fabricated the "pornographic materials in the children’s library" issue and proposed the potential privatization of our library in order to fulfill the your own political and career agendas.

Sincerely,

What makes America great?
National parks provide amazing open space for all

Public schools provide free education k-12
FEMA helps disaster victims
USAID gives life saving help for people world wide including handling epidemics, global food insecurity and education funding Our alliances with foreign countries help ensure for security for all Agencies regulate our food and drugs for safety
The consumer financial protection bureau helps victims of predatory lending and consumer fraud EPA keeps our air, water and land clean
With Law and order everyone is treated equally and fairly, no one is above the law.

Courts try, convict and jail serious offenders instead of pardoning them enmass without regard to their crimes FBI investigates crimes and tried to prevent a felon from becoming POTUS The IRS analyzes tax returns so everyone pays their fair share.

NOAA alerts citizens of weather patterns to prepare for potential disasters and monitors changes in the ocean affecting the livelihood of fishermen US postal service provides nationwide mail delivery to every city, town and rural address The VA provides care for our veterans.

Social Security processes the safety net we have paid into.

A strong Dept of Defense is ready to protect us
The CDC and Health and Human Services in needed for prevention of disease control The FAA keeping air travel safe
Dept of homeland security monitors threats from outside and within our country The Dept of Housing and Development helps low income Americans with stable housing Is there a person in this room who does not want America to be its best? In the guise of finding fraud and abuse, DOGE has slashed and burned these very things that have made America great. Lives have been destroyed, lives have been lost.

You have brought your partisan agenda locally by attacking our libraries, privatizing our public spaces and inviting lawsuits as you wield your power. You have divided the city and wasted precious resources
I guess we have a very different definition of great.

To: CITY COUNCIL (INCL. CMO STAFF); [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: Adopt the Initiative Ordinance Agenda # 17 (25-153) Date: Tuesday, March 4, 2025 8:35:10 AM
City Council Members:

I urge you to skip the alternatives of a General Election or a Special Election.

Why?
Because you could simply adopt the Ordinance as contained in the Initiative and rescind the formation of the Parent-Guardian Book Review Committee (Committee). In doing this (it is an option), you would save the City the expense of another lawsuit and it would save the City the cost of an election.

You have had multiple opportunities already to do this:
1) after the number of signatures were counted by the City Clerk, and meeting a threshold, the forms were sent to the County Registrar of Voters (OC ROV), or 2)10 days after the OC ROV notified the current City Clerk that the Initiative volunteers obtained the minimum number of signatures, or,
3) after the "study" was prepared as to the cost of a general election or a special election, or, 4) after the "survey" was repeatedly emailed to people that presumably did not yield your desired response, and 5) finally, at the 2/18/2025 City Council meeting, you had yet another opportunity to adopt the Ordinance as stated in the Initiative.

You have had enough time to evaluate and decide what is best for the City and its budget, so do the right thing for the City and adopt the Initiative's Ordinance rescinding the formation of the Committee.
