Madeline Foley

Application for: VETERANS & MILITARY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE.

I am writing to express my interest in serving on the Veterans & Military Affairs Committee. Though I am not a Veteran myself, my deep connection to the military community through my husband's active duty service and my father-inlaw's extensive tenure of over thirty years in the Navy has given me an understanding and appreciation for the challenges and needs of military families.

My involvement with the military community has been ranging from serving on boards such as the Family Readiness Group, which provided support to our command's families, to fostering numerous friendships with active duty personnel, retirees, and reservists within our tight-knit Imperial Beach community. Through these experiences, I have witnessed firsthand the unique challenges faced by military families and the invaluable support networks that sustain them.

Thomas Pochedly

Prior to the Navy, I was a full-time local director for the non-profit organization, concerned veterans for america, our focus was advocating for modernization of the VA healthcare system to better serve veterans. We did this through grassroots organizing and engaging with legislators at the state and federal level. Our organization had a presence in 14 states. I have a bachelor's in political science from Ashland University. I am an active duty intelligence officer stationed here at IB NOLF, and I am an IB resident intent on retiring here. I have a fair amount of experience working in veterans policy and interfacing with government officials, which would be helpful for the committee.

I am an active duty naval intelligence officer (O-3). I am the N2 (staff intelligence officer) for Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron Three (MSRON-3) located on IB NOLF. My next billet is the security manager at a helicopter squadron on NASNI, but I still have 12 months left at my tour at MSRON-3, and I will be a resident of IB for at least the next 5 years.

I have been on active duty as an intelligence officer for the last 8 years. This is my second tour in San Diego. As mentioned above, prior to military service, I worked in non-profit organizations advocating for veterans issues.

To be an asset in any way I can. Veterans many times are unable to navigate the cumbersome VA system and go without the benefits they deserve. The communities in which they live are ill equipped and many times unwilling to assist them. To be a part of the solution would be a honor.
