Hello
Mayor Aguirre and
City Council members
My husband and I
Gerri & Bill Hermann have been
living at for 1 1/2 years now !
Just before living at Sussex Gardens we lived aboard
our sailboat
s/v Stagger Wing at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort marina for 30 YEARS!!!! Just like Sussex Gardens new management came in and singled out 10 boats which one was our boat We were perfect renters paid our rent on time never late!!! Our folder didn’t have one
compliant against us or we never complain against anyone there!! We had ONLY 30 days to leave
Fortunately a wonderful friend and member from our church St James Lutheran Church which I am a gratefully & blessed member informed and helped us find a vacant apartment at
Sussex Gardens
We found the complex to be a tight knit community just like the people on our dock at Loews Coronado Bay Resort marina
However as you know Sussex Gardens was purchased by
bean counters investors and they are in the process of renovating our complex in a speedy manner which they said would take up to 2 to 7 years
You know when they are finally finished our rents will double or triple Things are getting

OUT OF CONTROL
We are in need of LEGAL
PROTECTION for ALL RENTERS
Thank You for your time
Mr & Mrs Bill Hermann

Please accept my comments for Agenda Items 11a and 11c for the August 7th City Council meeting.
11a - I would like to express my support for this project. A major contributor to homelessness, is a lack of affordable housing and it's important that all communities find ways to address this issue. The Wakeland housing project will provide needed affordable housing for seniors and replace a dilapidated, run down group of buildings with a beautiful new development. I understand that some neighbors are concerned about changing the character of the neighborhood, but I think this development is a positive addition, and the fact that there are offices there, an onsite manager, and background checks of residents, should reduce the chance of any problems.
11c - I would like to share that I am grateful that City residents have access to the Mar Vista Pool. I've been taking a water exercise class on Sunday mornings and the instructor is excellent. There are 8-10 of us participating each week and the class offers a great way to exercise for those of us with physical limitations. There are lots of people using the pool including young kids taking swim lessons, and adults doing laps, and I hope that the City will continue to offer programs at the pool in 2025 and beyond.

I am unable to attend the meeting in person on Wednesday Aug 7 but wanted to state that I am a member of the Friends of IBNC . I volunteer at the food pantry and see the overwhelming need for food for seniors, homeless , and now even more families. I believe this center will be a great hub for our community to meet, it will provide a one stop shop for resources ( medical , housing, food etc ) information and continue the very successful and much appreciated shower blessings program. I am excited for this new building and the positive impact it will bring to IB. Thank you.

goal for the 50 Affordable Senior Units & Neighborhood Center at 455 Palm Avenue to be built. As Imperial Beach has become a highly desirable beach community, many seniors live on a fixed income and those who rent are being forced to make unacceptable decisions between rent and paying for food or medicine. This project is crucial to enable local seniors who may not be able to continue to pay increasing rents that eventually could exceed their monthly income and potentially leave them homeless or have to move out of the city where they may have lived for decades. The separate Neighborhood Center building which will contain offices and management services that are critical to the senior affordable housing development on the same campus and to continue the services such as the Pantry, Showers of Blessings program and other services and referrals that will be a lifeline to the residents of the senior affordable housing and other vulnerable citizens of our community.

I am writing to ask you to please adopt Resolution No. 2024-058 as I am unable to be at the August 7 City Council meeting in person due to a prior commitment.

Please contact me if you have any questions. or would like further information. Thank you for your support of this Resolution to ensure critical senior affordable housing and support services for our community become a reality for our classic city of which I am proud to be a resident and support.

Respectfully,
Nancy Stone

gated, this will not be. St. James has ample parking, that’s also a no. So let’s go ahead and just not compare apple to oranges. The safety concerns far outweigh the supposed good this will be bringing to Imperial Beach. Quite the opposite actually, this development will create a huge concern for our quality of life and will greatly negatively impact out town.

It is your due diligence as our elected officials to follow your mission statement: “To maintain and enhance Imperial Beach as ‘Classic Southern California’; a beach oriented community with a safe, small town, family atmosphere, rich in natural and cultural resources”. This is a huge, radical, unsafe change that has been thrust upon us and needs to be more carefully considered and properly communicated out to all the residents of Imperial Beach. Keep us safe, keep our children safe.

Considerations for agenda items that should be discussed in more detail:

1. Proper lighting surrounding all schools including but not limited to residential streets. Well lit areas are proven to deter crimes and criminal behavior.

2. Length from curb parking, we should be able to properly see oncoming traffic and execute turns safely but this is not possible if cars are permitted to park too close to a corner obstructing our line of vision.

3. Safety concerns regarding the large group of hooligans coming in on the bus from other areas and participating in theft, fights, stabbings and gang related activity.

4. Lack of police presence in Imperial Beach, fully funded police station staffed by Imperial Beach Sheriffs.

Please think on this letter, we are asking for your careful consideration and hoping that you can see what really is best for our community and our children. Thank you for your time. – Samara Grosse

To whom it may concern,
I absolutely do not want this housing project approved.

I live near the middle school and the high school. I see young children walking around this area all hours of the day. This would put our children and our elderly at risk.

Our small beach neighborhood is not the place for drug
addicted transients to be roaming around. If this is
approved then the City should be prepared to hire and
pay more sheriffs to patrol this small city.

Respectfully,
Mike Doyle

Subject: IB Neighborhood Center Project
Attention: Mayor Aguirre & City of Imperial Beach Councilmembers The Imperial Beach Neighborhood Center has fully supported the community of Imperial Beach since our Nonprofit Organization was created in July 2018 focusing on marginalized individuals (seniors, low-income families & housing challenged individuals) experiencing food insecurity and homelessness.

By building the 50 Affordable Senior Units, IB Neighborhood Center continues its legacy of making our community a better place.

The IB Neighborhood Center Project also adds 50 housing units to the 1,329 Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA) housing units recommended for the City of Imperial Beach 2021-2029 RHNA Housing Growth Need as assessed by San Diego County Association of Governments (SANDAG).

I am asking for your support in approving:

I encourage you to approve the Imperial Beach Community Resiliency Plan. The strategies identified in the plan are appropriate and will be effective in helping us better prepare for, manage, and recover from the undeniable impacts of our changing environment. The projects in the Plan protect our ecosystems, safeguard our communities, and will provide new opportunities for people to enjoy our beautiful natural resources. I commend the City for the work done thus far and for already appropriating funds for more data collection and technical analyses necessary to implement the projects in the plan.

Subject: Item 11c Mar Vista High School Aquatic Facility Date: Wednesday, August 7, 2024 11:49:35 AM
Dear City Council:

I WAS WRONG to urge you to enter into the current agreement with Mar Vista High School for public use of the swimming pool.

I realize now that the costs per unique swimmer are exorbitant. For example the second year estimated costs are approximately $430,000. If the number of unique swimmers increases to 350, about 100 more than have participated, the average annual cost per unique swimmer would be $1,229. Even if the number of unique swimmers doubled to 500, the average annual cost per swimmer would be $860. Compare that to $600 for an annual pass at Coronado High School that would allow swimming every day of the year except a few holidays and perhaps 2 weeks of maintenance time.

I also believe $400,000 might be better spent on other large efforts facing the city such as Sheriff's costs, Fire Department equipment replacements, street and facilities maintenance, and hardening the city's infrastructure against the rising ocean. The funds could also be used to maintain competitive salaries and benefits to retain the excellent work force the City currently has.

Therefore I urge you to either phase out the program or choose option 3 presented in the staff report.
