I support proclaiming February as Black History Month, but proclamations such as this, that fail to mention the struggles as well as the triumphs of Black Americans are inadequate, especially when the Trump administration is:
 systematically removing exhibits of slavery from national parks (most recently at Independence Mall in Philadelphia);
 eliminating references to Black American heroes such as Harriet Tubman, Medgar Evans and Jackie Robinson from government websites;
 dismantling decades old laws to ensure equal opportunity and access to the foundations of democratic society such as voting, education, housing, and jobs,  targeting Somali Americans with vitriol and unjust termination of their Temporary Protected status, and;
 demonizing a Somali American member of Congress.

With our federal government no longer committed to truth, justice and equality, it is more important than ever for our local governments to protect the legacy and defend the diversity of all of our residents so that none of us has to live in fear. Unfortunately, this Proclamation falls short.

Sincerely,
Sandy Brillhart

This Agenda Item is timely in light of Council's recent discussion on E Bike regulations.

If it is within the scope of this grant, Council should request that EBikes be specifically included in all education and data collection activities.

Sincerely,
Sandy Brillhart
