Fred Ortega, Prime Healthcare of Centinela Hospital, spoke on Agenda Item No. CC-1, A Proposed Ordinance to establish a minimum wage for certain employees employed to work at or by a privately owned covered healthcare facility within the City of Inglewood.

He stated he appreciated Council Member Morales' suggestion of being willing to delve more into this initiative for an economic analysis to better understand the measure's unintended consequence.  He also stated that Centinela Hospital had served the Inglewood and Greater Los Angeles community for over 100 years. During the pandemic, more than 3600 COVID-19-positive patients were treated and administered more than 10,000 vaccines. Additionally, he added that Centinela Hospital has a staff of 1240 employees and nearly 400 Clinicians who are dedicated to improving the community's health and providing innovative and integrated health care through the performance of almost 60,000 outpatient procedures annually and close to 50,000 emergency room visits per year. The caller further stated that he felt the proposed measure was deeply flawed, inequitable, and hurt access to care for disadvantaged communities. He added that the measure picked winners and losers amongst essential workers and excluded community clinics, Planned Parenthood, nursing homes, and other critical health care providers.

Finally, he stated that the measure was unequal and unfair, and it would put an enormous financial strain on health care providers in the City of Inglewood.

Tiffany Sti n es , called regarding Breahna, Marneysha, Jayden, and Teron, the four children who were murdered. She stated that it was seven people in the house, and that wasn ’t a house party. She also stated that there was no reward money, nor was she provided with an update regarding the murders. Finally, she stated her children were not gang banging, fighting, or doing anything wrong, it was seven people trying to enjoy themselves.

There being no further business to be presented, Mayor Butts adjourned the meeting at the hour of 2:5 2 p.m.

Approved this ____ day of _________ , 2022.
