ORTIZ concerns from residents on Hidalgo and Juarez regarding speeding motorists and advised that surveys had previously been conducted, the results of which demonstrated that residents did not support speed humps. He suggested that the same process be undertaken again.
MAYOR PRO TEM Mayor Pro Tem Burrola also requested that the survey be included BURROLA on the City website, to which City Manager Miranda stated that staff would look into the request, though he cautioned that having it on the website meant that any member of the public could participate in the survey, not just those living on the subject streets.
COUNCILMEMBER Councilmember Garcia suggested that the survey indicate that the GARCIA Council does not wish to eliminate any parking availability, to which Mayor Pro Tem Burrola stated that he would prefer not to include the request in his motion.
DIRECTOR CHAN Director Chan spoke about speed hump size requirements and how they are designed to avoid liability issues. He added that vehicles are generally not allowed to park next to speed humps, which may take some parking availability away.
CITY MANAGER City Manager Miranda asked whether the curb could be painted red MIRANDA to avoid having individuals park their vehicles near speed humps, to which Director Chan advised speed hump designs usually include red curbs.
ASSISTANT CITY Assistant City Manager Olivares suggested moving forward with the MANAGER OLIVARES motion, including the stipulation that the Engineering Department conduct its analysis and that a survey be conducted amongst the residents living on the subject streets to determine whether a separate process is necessary for the installation of speed humps.
MAYOR PRO TEM Mayor Pro Tem Burrola reiterated that his motion was for a survey to BURROLA be sent to residents of Hidalgo and Martinez Streets to gauge their interest in having speed humps installed.
