6. PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS:
Karina Matadamas, 124 S. San Lorenzo Ave. she has been there the last 8 years. She is a 5th grade teacher at K Cam. 3 months ago, a new tenant moved in next to her and there are repeated late night nuisances, bikes up and down the stairs, loud noise, yelling, banging on the door to be let in at all hours of the night.
She is concerned about the safety of her family and residents that live in the apartment complex. On going disruption that is not consistent with normal residential activity. They have called the police on several occasions, and it has resulted in an arrest each time. There are frequently unknown individuals walking around their parking lot late at night. They have found drug paraphernalia including syringes and glass pipes. Gas theft has happened, so they had to install a locking gas cap. They no longer feel safe at home.
They have to keep their windows shut due to the smell of marijuana which is especially concerning because they have a one-year-old child. They are aware this individual is part of the Monarch program.
They fully support the programs that help people access stable housing and resources. However, what they are experiencing does not reflect the safe or properly supported housing environment, especially for children she sees every day as students. This is happening in another apartment in the same apartment complex in sighting that this is not an isolated issue. This is about community safety, accountability and assuring our housing program are paired with appropriate oversight and support. They are literally behind the Monarch Inn, and they have never experienced this issue until the last 3 months. They are asking the city to assist with this issue because it is a concern for safety. They want to continue living in their neighborhoods, raise their families and feel safe in their homes as every resident deserves. She hopes this is taken into consideration because they have to live with this constant disruption in their residence.
